Character Name: Alexander Levelle Harris
2) Alias: Xander
3) Age: 26
4) Faction: Scoobie
5) Alignment: Good
6) Occupation: Site Foreman/Carpenter
7) Species: Human
8) Background: Born to Tony and Jessica were married under a condition colorfully known as 'shut gun.' Barely five months after getting married and only eight out of high school, the couple gave birth to their first and only child - Alexander Lavelle Harris. It was not the happiest home to be raised in. After a back injury took Tony out of his factory job, he succumbed to his family's history of alcoholism and took his wife with him. While Xander's parents provided the minimum to raise him, they didn't provide much more. At best they were neglectful. At worst they were emotionally abusive.
Luckily for Xander, salvation came in the form of a small girl with red hair and a broken yellow crayon. In preschool, Willow Rosenberg and Xander met and formed a friendship so strong that not even a Hellmouth could break it - and several have tried. Shortly after, a boy named Jesse came and completed the trio. They banded together as a makeshift family and navigated the dangerous world of adolescence together. Three uncool kids versus the world.
Everything changed the day that Xander met Buffy Summers and learned why such a small town needed a dozen cemeteries...
9) Personality: At first glance, Xander doesn't seem like much. He talks a little too much. He jokes a little too often. Depending on who you ask, Xander is either amusing or annoying. He seems to just breeze through life on a joke and a smile.
The secret to understanding Xander is to work from the inside out. Underneath everything else, Xander has a rock solid core. He does not quit. In the world of magic, demons and Hellmouths, he is constant. He won't turn his back and walk away - even if you push him. He holds on to a few beliefs so strongly that often he makes it so by the shear force of his will; Buffy is a hero, Willow is good, Giles will find the solution, the good guys win. It's gotten him into trouble sometimes. He had doubts about Buffy's plan s at the vineyard and Willow's plan to bring back Buffy, but didn't say much because he believed they knew what was best. Still, it's also what drove him when he forced Angel to take him to the Master's lair. Once Xander loves you, he loves you forever.
Xander's role in the Scoobies isn't to save the world. Even when talking down Willow when she tried to destroy the world, he wasn't really saving the world. He was saving Willow. Xander's strength is something harder to see. He doesn't save. He builds. He maintains. He fixes things when they're broken. It doesn't matter if it's a bookshelf, a broadsword, a shopping list, or a person. He takes care of things. Most times, he does such a good job that people don't notice what he's doing. That's his core. What's surround it is an entirely different matter.
As much as Xander believes in his friends, he has trouble believing in himself. A childhood spent being neglected by his parents, bullied by his pears, and living in the shadow of his friends hasn't done much for his self esteem. Frankly, he expects that eventually everything good in his life will be taken away or leave him behind because that's all he knew most of his life. He's quick to push aside his accomplishments, or not tell people about them, because he doesn't see them as worth other people's time. He absorbs guilt and blame whenever it's directed at him. He's constantly on the defensive because he feels he has to be. He's stubborn because that was the only way he could get things he needed. He got so little attention as a kid that he sometimes goes overboard trying to get it now. As he's gotten older, he's gotten better. It's still a big part of him though.
So, Xander lives in dichotomy. He's never the smartest person in the room, but he's usually the cleverest. He's not the best fighter, but he's the last one standing. He can't see himself, but he doesn't miss much about others. He can't save the world, but nothing can stop him from saving his friends. He may break down, but he'll fix you. Just expect him to talk a lot while he's doing it. And probably babble. Also flirt if you're a smart/sexy/powerful/evil women. Because that's just what he does.
